As a regular kid growing up in the early nineties, I spent a lot of time watching the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). 

Unlike today, we didn’t have the luxury of channel surfing, so on Sunday afternoons (and maybe Thursday evenings, if my memory recalls), my family and I congregated on the couch to watch grown men throw themselves around a ring, hoping like hell Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior would be the last two men standing.

The nineties rolled into the turn of the century, the clock didn’t stop, the aliens didn’t invade and now we’re two decades down the line, entering a new age of AI, radical new ideas and partisan politics.

If I’m open and honest, I miss the old days. Bring the Hulkster back, give me 10 TV channel options, but make sure I can get my sports fix, and let’s dial back the chaos and get back to taking care of each other.

The world is racing forward at a million miles an hour and insurance has hitched on for the ride. You used to only be able to buy insurance through a broker, then you were able to buy it via a call centre and nowadays you can buy it directly online. All this has happened in a matter of a decade or two.

During its sales distribution evolution, everyone in the insurance industry has been knocking “the other guy,” trying to cement their position as the “last man standing’’. Brokers give direct insurers a hard time because call centre agents aren’t able to offer ínsurance advice. Direct insurers take a dig at brokers, comparing them to fossils and then there are the insurance guys who are doubling down on AI and selling policies online.

The insurance industry is a bit like the WWF – everyone is in the ring, trying to body slam, rear-naked choke and count out their opponents!
